With the added presence, Rhenus Greater China will be able to better support local companies with integrated logistics services across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Leading global logistics service provider Rhenus announced its first branch in Macao. The setup will complement its existing network in Greater China, including its offices in Guangdong and Hong Kong, to offer customized, comprehensive supply chain solutions to companies in Macao. The new office will offer a full suite of air and ocean freight products along with ocean freight consolidation supported by regular feeder service between Hong Kong and Macao.

“The new office in Macao will boost our network across key economic zones such as Zhuhai, Guangzhou, Hong Kong and Shenzhen. Moreover, with the recent government plans of developing the manufacturing industry in the Macao-Zhuhai area, we witness a great potential to grow our business in the region, both in the manufacturing as well as the booming e-commerce sectors”, said Cliff Xu, CEO of Greater China at Rhenus Air & Ocean.

China’s central authorities have issued a general plan for building a Guangdong-Macao in-depth cooperation zone in Hengqin. While traditionally focused on tourism and gaming, a master plan was announced in September 2021 to develop new industries to diversify Macao’s economy. The Master Plan of the Development of the Guangdong-Macao In-depth Cooperation Zone aims to grow industries in technology research and development, high-end manufacturing, traditional Chinese medicine and more. In addition, declaration procedures for outbound and inbound goods between Macao and the cooperation zone will also be simplified, which is an incentive for companies with import-export trade to relocate to the region.

The recent move by Rhenus is a part of its strategy to strengthen its network in Greater China, particularly in the Greater Bay area. With the opening of the Zhuhai office in 2021, Macau this year and potentially Zhongshan office in 2023, the company is well poised to cater to the local and international customers looking at the influx of opportunities in the region.
