Ocean Network Express (Japan) Ltd. has announced that ONE Japan and Mitsui O.S.K Lines, Ltd. (MOL) have collaborated with Sogo & Seibu Co Ltd., and the Japanese Organization for International Cooperation in Family Planning (JOICFP) in a project to distribute shoes to disadvantaged children in Zambia. As part of this project, ONE Japan and MOL have provided the ocean transport service needed to ship the shoes from Japan to Zambia.

This project started in 2009 when Sogo & Seibu, a major Japanese retailer, would donate used shoes exchanged by customers to JOICFP, which in turn would distribute them to children in Zambia. To date, more than 1 million shoes have been donated. Wearing shoes is important for the local community in Zambia as it helps in the prevention of tetanus and provides protection against parasitic infection. It also helps motivate the local children to attend school consistently.

This time, for the first time, ONE Japan partnered with MOL and together, ONE Japan and MOL transported the donated shoes to Durban in the Republic of South Africa, which is the gateway port to Zambia.
