MSC New East/West Shipping Network 2025

In a significant strategic move, MSC (Mediterranean Shipping Company) has announced the launch of a comprehensive East/West shipping network set to commence in February 2025. This pioneering initiative is designed to provide a holistic solution for all customers, offering a choice between the Suez and the Cape of Good Hope routing options.

The newly unveiled network is poised to supersede the existing 2M Vessel Sharing Agreement (VSA) that MSC has with Maersk on East/West trades. MSC’s independent, competitive, and complete network for East/West trades will encompass 5 trades with 34 loops, incorporating 7 loops for Asia North Europe, 6 loops for Asia Mediterranean, 4 loops for Asia North America West Coast, 6 loops for Asia North America East Coast, and 11 loops for the Transatlantic Network. Customers availing of the East/West service will have the flexibility to opt for weekly services via Suez, with over 1,900 direct port pairs, or the Cape of Good Hope, with more than 1,800 direct port pairs.

Soren Toft, CEO of MSC, expressed his enthusiasm about the upcoming changes, stating, “We are delighted to reveal our future standalone East/West network for all clients. Customers will benefit from MSC’s unmatched connectivity and direct corridors, coupled with consistent high quality of service.”

Furthermore, with the addition of select slot swap agreements, MSC aims to provide complete coverage across all East/West routes. The full operational control of their network allows MSC to offer clients both Suez and Cape of Good Hope routing options, representing an important milestone in the evolution of their global network.

Importantly, the 2025 East/West network and its associated options will not impact the tonnage or deployment for any other routes provided by MSC globally, showcasing the company’s commitment to maintaining seamless operations across all routes.
