Mediterranean Shipping (Thailand) Co., Ltd. (MSC Thailand) is strategically expanding its business with a focus on container shipping and value-added services. The company remains committed to technology, digital innovation, and sustainable operations, reinforcing MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company’s (MSC) position as a leading global shipping company.
As the global market faces rapid and volatile economic changes, MSC differentiates itself as an industry leader by developing innovative, future-oriented solutions. The company focuses on integrating digital technology to enhance service efficiency while conducting business sustainably, guided by a clear vision and mission.
In this edition of LM magazine, we had the opportunity to speak with Ms. Rungruedee Kurutuch, Deputy Managing Director, and Ms. Onvorata Tansuhaj, Business Development Manager at Mediterranean Shipping (Thailand) Co., Ltd. They discussed the vision and business operations in the Thai market, revealing forward-looking business practices that incorporate technology and innovation to enhance customer experience and satisfaction, improve operational efficiency, and promote sustainable business growth.
Business Expansion and Market Presence
After more than two decades of success in the Thai market, MSC Thailand has built a strong foundation of customer trust. This trust, combined with regional economic expansion, has significantly increased service demand. Consequently, the company has continuously expanded its business and service offerings to meet the growing needs of its customers.
Ms. Rungruedee outlined the business expansion plan and service offerings: “While MSC Thailand is renowned for providing long-haul shipping services to global destinations, we are constantly enhancing our services to meet customer needs and expand our market share. This strategy broadens our business base, allowing us to comprehensively support customers in Thailand and neighboring countries.”
“Additionally, we aim to enhance customer satisfaction by offering value-added services such as Door-to-Door Solutions, Cargo Cover Solutions, Smart Containers, and Electronic Bill of Lading (eBL). These services streamline the shipping process, improve transparency, and ensure smooth operations for our customers,” added Ms. Rungruedee.
Enhancing Customer Experience
With increasing competition in the shipping and logistics market, enhancing service quality and customer experience is essential for business success, especially in a market with many prominent and robust players.
“MSC Thailand is enhancing its capabilities to provide excellent customer service experiences. Beyond offering targeted services through tailor-made solutions to maximize efficiency and convenience, we also encourage our employees to adopt a customer-centric mindset across all departments, not just sales and customer service,” said Ms. Rungruedee.
Operational Optimization and Digitalization
One industry trend that MSC Thailand emphasizes is digitalization, using digital technology to transform work processes. The company integrates digital technologies to improve operational efficiency, streamline processes, and enhance customer service experience.
“We have implemented various digital technologies to make operations faster, more concise, and accurate. Currently, the company offers a range of digital solutions, such as the myMSC eBusiness platform, which features functionalities like Instant Quote, Schedules, Electronic Shipping Instructions (eSI), and Verified Gross Mass (VGM) documentation. Additionally, we offer digital solutions like Smart Containers for real-time tracking, allowing customers to check container status 24/7 for efficient shipment management,” said Ms. Onvorata.
“Another prominent digital solution is the issuance of electronic Bill of Lading (eBL), which we have been providing since 2021, making us one of the pioneers in offering such digital solutions in the industry. MSC is also a founding member of the Digital Container Shipping Association (DCSA), which aims to set technology standards for the shipping industry to promote the growth of paperless documentation. This serves as a foundation for cooperation across the supply chain, supporting sustainability in global trade. The company aims to achieve 100% use of eBLs by 2030, with an intermediate target of 50% within five years,” added Ms. Onvorata.
Commitment to Sustainability
As the world increasingly focuses on sustainability, MSC is fully committed to play its part. A key aspect of this commitment is achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. Currently, MSC is pursuing strategies such as investing in energy efficiency technology, modernizing its fleet to be more environmentally friendly, and researching and investing in alternative fuels with low or zero carbon emissions.
MSC also offers eco-friendly solutions for customers committed to reducing carbon emissions. “Our recent Biofuel Solution allows our customers to opt for biofuel made from used cooking oil (UCO) to bunk their shipment, which is more environmentally friendly than traditional 100 percent fossil-based fuel. This solution is MSC’s first carbon in-setting program, designed to reduce carbon emissions from within the business supply chain. It is part of the company’s commitment to accelerating environmental change in the industry through concrete actions,” revealed Ms. Onvorata.
These diverse initiatives demonstrate that MSC Thailand is committed not only to managing and addressing current market challenges but also to paving the way for sustainable business operations and embracing digital advancements. As one of Thailand’s leading logistics industry players, the company is poised to support economic growth at both national and regional levels, offering comprehensive solutions to meet a wide range of needs.
