Hutchison Ports Thailand (HPT), a leading port operator in Thailand, celebrates three years of environmental commitment with its “Go Green” initiative. 2024 also sees an exciting expansion for HPT: the “Our Oceans” project dedicated to marine conservation.

Expanding Collaboration and Environmental Advocacy

HPT is amplifying environmental awareness globally. Its “Our Oceans” initiative aims to spread the word on the importance of healthy oceans. In February, they partnered with the World Wild Fund for Nature (WWF) Hong Kong for the “Global Connect” online seminar. Professor Sarinya Sanitwong Na Ayutthaya, a sustainability partner representing Kasetsart University, discussed the crucial role of educational institutions and community participation in achieving environmental goals.

Strengthening Collaboration with Educational Institutions

As part of their ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability and community engagement, HPT has announced a strengthened partnership with the Faculty of International Maritime Studies at Kasetsart University, Sriracha Campus (IMS KU) in Thailand.

One of the initiatives that HPT and IMS KU have launched together is the “Green Port Saves the Ocean” painting competition. This competition provides a platform for young people to showcase their creativity and perspectives on the relationship between ports and the environment. This year’s theme is focused on the important role that ports can play in protecting our oceans, and the competition aims to raise awareness among young people about the importance of environmental sustainability.

In addition to the painting competition, HPT and IMS KU are also co-hosting a “Waste Management” workshop. This workshop will educate young people in the local community about responsible waste management practices and aims to foster a culture of environmental responsibility and stewardship.

This partnership between HPT and IMS KU is just one example of the growing trend towards corporate social responsibility and sustainable business practices in the maritime industry. As concerns about climate change and the environment continue to grow, companies like HPT are taking proactive steps to reduce their impact on the environment and give back to the communities in which they operate. By engaging with young people and promoting environmental awareness, HPT and IMS KU are setting a positive example for others to follow.

Enhancing Wildlife Conservation Efforts

HPT is teaming up with the Foundation for Khao Yai National Park Protection to organize a mangrove planting activity in Klaeng district, Rayong. This initiative builds upon HPT’s earlier participation in the “NEXT GEN NEW WORLD” project, where they contributed to improving water sources, constructing artificial salt licks, planting trees for wildlife food, and releasing animals back into their natural habitats at the Salak Phra Wildlife Sanctuary in Kanchanaburi.

Promoting Employee and Community Engagement

HPT fosters environmental responsibility within its workforce and the community. They encourage tree planting at home and share information on ocean conservation, inspiring environmentally friendly lifestyles. Notably, in March 2024, they organized a beach clean-up activity at the Banglamung Home for Boys in Chonburi.

Continuing the Green Journey

The collaborative meeting on the “Go Green” and “Our Oceans” projects signifies HPT’s dedication to tackling environmental challenges and creating positive impacts. By prioritizing collaboration with various organizations and the public, HPT paves the way towards a sustainable future.

As part of HPT’s commitment to promoting environmental sustainability and positively impacting the planet, the company has planned the 2024 edition of the “Go Green” event on the 27th of May, 2024. The event will offer attendees the opportunity to learn more about sustainable living and connect with like-minded individuals.

Through its various initiatives and events, HPT strives to educate and inspire individuals to adopt eco-friendly practices and contribute to a better world.
