In a momentous ceremony, Ms. Cindy Cao, CEO of DB Schenker Greater China, was recognized as the Godmother of the CMA CGM BIG SUR, a cutting-edge 15,000-TEU containership powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG). The event, attended by around 100 distinguished guests from DB Schenker, CMA CGM, CMA Ships, esteemed partners, and key managers from Jiangnan Shipyard, marked a significant milestone in the maritime industry.
During the ceremony, Mr. Billy GU, COO of CMA CGM China, introduced Ms. Cindy Cao as the Godmother of the CMA CGM BIG SUR, highlighting the strong partnership between the two companies. Ms Cao expressed her deep honour at the invitation, emphasizing the collaborative efforts between DB Schenker and CMA CGM in promoting sustainable practices within the logistics industry.
The CMA CGM BIG SUR sets a new standard for environmentally-friendly shipping, utilizing a dual-fuel main engine equipped with an Intelligent Control through an Exhaust Recycling system. This advanced technology allows for a significant reduction in methane escape in gas mode, leading to a more than 28% decrease in greenhouse gas emissions compared to previous models.
Furthermore, in a proactive move towards sustainability, DB Schenker signed a purchase contract for over 2,500 tons of biofuel with CMA CGM in 2022. This initiative aims to transition all less-than-container load (LCL) volumes with CMA CGM to regular carbon-free production, demonstrating the companies’ commitment to reducing the environmental impact of ocean freight.
Looking ahead, DB Schenker is dedicated to expanding its collaboration with international partners to drive further emission reduction efforts in the logistics industry. Leveraging its expertise and innovative edge, the company is committed to forging a sustainable, green logistics supply chain for the future.
