DB Schenker, a global logistics leader, has partnered with Ford to inaugurate a state-of-the-art Parts Distribution Center (PDC) in Dubai South. This 42,000-square-meter facility, opened on January 9, 2025, sets a new standard for automotive supply chain efficiency and innovation in the Middle East and Africa.
Dignitaries including H.E. Khalifa Al Zaffin, Executive Chairman of Dubai Aviation City Corporation and Dubai South, and senior executives from DB Schenker and Ford attended the inauguration ceremony.
Advanced Technology and Optimized Operations
The new PDC features advanced technologies and logistics solutions to optimize operations:
- Material Handling Equipment (MHE): Very Narrow Aisle (VNA) systems, Multi-Tier Mezzanines (MTM), Deep Selective Racking (DSR), and Cantilever Racking (CR) maximize storage and picking efficiency.
- Efficient Layout: 20 container docks (10 inbound, 10 outbound) enable simultaneous loading and unloading, accelerating delivery times.
- SAP S/4HANA: Warehouse management software facilitates paperless picking with barcode scanning for enhanced accuracy and speed.
- Dedicated VOR Team: A Vehicle Off Road (VOR) processing team prioritizes critical parts to minimize delays and enhance customer satisfaction.
“At DB Schenker, we take immense pride in supporting Ford’s ambitious vision for operational excellence in the Middle East,” said Ako Djaf, VP of Contract Logistics and SCM of DB Schenker in the Middle East and Africa. “This new Parts Distribution Center is a testament to the power of collaboration and innovation.”
Sustainability Focus
The PDC incorporates sustainable practices, including:
- Solar Power: A 400kW solar panel system will be installed in late 2025, reducing energy consumption by 35% and lowering the carbon footprint by 290 tons annually.
- Waste Management: Responsible waste management practices, including recycling and eco-friendly disposal, further reinforce the facility’s commitment to sustainability.
Strategic Location and Enhanced Capacity
Located in Dubai South’s Logistics District, the PDC consolidates Ford’s storage and distribution into a single, technologically advanced hub serving key markets across the GCC and Sub-Saharan Africa. The facility offers a 20% increase in capacity compared to its predecessor, significantly improving inventory management and operational efficiency.
“The new PDC will enable us to create a more streamlined and efficient process that enhances parts availability, optimizes inventory management, and elevates customer service,” said Ravi Ravichandran, President of Ford Middle East.
This state-of-the-art facility exemplifies DB Schenker’s commitment to driving innovation and sustainability in the logistics industry. By leveraging cutting-edge technologies and best practices, DB Schenker empowers global brands like Ford to optimize their supply chains and achieve operational excellence.
