Ocean carrier Regional Container Lines (RCL) has placed an order for four energy-efficient 1,900 TEU Bangkokmax container ships to expand its regional feeder and intra-Asia transport infrastructure.
The fleet acquisition supports the carrier’s growth framework, “Anchored in Asia. Extending our reach,” by reinforcing trade lane density across core regional routes and integrating with its fleet of larger mid-haul vessels.
Vessel Design and Network Integration
The fleet expansion focuses on fuel efficiency and spatial optimization for intra-Asia trade corridors:
- Fleet Capacity and Design: Features a maximum capacity of 1,900 TEUs per vessel, engineered specifically to Bangkokmax dimensions to navigate depth and length restrictions along the Chao Phraya River and access key feeder ports.
- Decarbonization and Energy Efficiency: Incorporates energy-efficient hull designs and modern engine technologies to reduce fuel consumption and lower operational carbon emissions per TEU transported.
- Strategic Network Positioning: Strengthens feeder connectivity between regional hubs and feeder ports across Southeast Asia, while providing flexible feeder support for RCL’s expanding mid-haul service network across emerging growth markets.
