PIL 14000 TEU LNG Dual-Fuel Container Vessel Kota Ebony

Pacific International Lines (PIL) has taken delivery of its third 14,000 TEU LNG dual-fuel container vessel, named “Kota Ebony,” at a ceremony in Shanghai. This vessel is the third of four such vessels ordered as part of the company’s fleet renewal program, and it signifies PIL’s commitment to sustainable shipping.

“Kota Ebony,” designed and constructed by Jiangnan Shipyard, is one of the largest vessels in PIL’s fleet and the first to operate on Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG). The vessel will reinforce PIL’s East Coast Latin America service, joining its sister ships, “Kota Eagle” and “Kota Emerald,” which are already operating successfully in the Latin America service network.

PIL CEO Lars Kastrup highlighted the company’s investment in dual-fuel vessels, noting that a fourth 14,000 TEU vessel is expected soon, followed by 14 additional dual-fuel, biomethane-capable vessels to be delivered progressively. This investment aligns with PIL’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

The 14,000 TEU vessels feature an optimized hull form, high reefer capacities, and various technologies to reduce fuel consumption and emissions, including high-performance anti-fouling coating and exhaust gas recirculation systems. PIL has ordered a total of 18 newbuild vessels since 2022, including 14,000 TEU, 8,000 TEU, 13,000 TEU, and 9,000 TEU vessels.
