DP World, a leading provider of smart end-to-end supply chain logistics, has introduced a fully electric Internal Transfer Vehicle (ITV) at its Fisherman Island terminal in the Port of Brisbane. This marks the first electric ITV deployment for DP World in Australia and is a significant step towards its sustainability goals.
The new electric ITV is projected to eliminate over 120,000 litres of diesel fuel consumption annually, significantly reducing carbon emissions and supporting Queensland’s environmental objectives. Fisherman Island is a vital trade hub for Queensland, handling agricultural exports, motor vehicle imports, and containerized trade. The electric ITV is designed to efficiently transport containers weighing up to 88 tonnes within the port.
This initiative aligns with DP World’s global sustainability strategy, which includes targets to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050 and a near-term target of a 42% reduction in carbon footprint by 2030.
“Every link in the supply chain matters,” said Nicolaj Noes, Executive Vice President, of Oceania, DP World. “While this may seem like a small step, it is a critical one. To fully decarbonize the global logistics network, we need to address every link, big and small. This initiative exemplifies what is possible when innovators and regulators collaborate to set new standards for safe and sustainable operations.”
DP World collaborated closely with the Port of Brisbane and the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator to ensure the seamless integration of the electric ITV into the port’s operations. This successful collaboration demonstrates the power of public-private partnerships in driving meaningful progress towards emission reduction across the supply chain.
“We welcome the continued investment and innovation by DP World and its commitment to sustainability, which aligns with our own ambitions for the long-term sustainable development of the Port of Brisbane,” said Neil Stephens, CEO of Port of Brisbane Pty Ltd (PBPL). “As Port Manager, we’re focused on creating the conditions that support our customers’ innovation and help them deliver safety, productivity, and sustainability outcomes that benefit the economy and community.”
DP World’s commitment to sustainable development extends beyond Australia. The company is leading electrification projects at various terminals globally, including establishing battery-swapping stations in South Korea and deploying electric-powered equipment in Peru.
The Fisherman Island deployment underscores DP World’s commitment to advancing Queensland’s trade capabilities and sustainable development, reinforcing its position as a leader in green logistics innovation.
