Regional Container Lines Public Company Limited (RCL) marked a significant milestone on 3rd September 2024 with the unveiling of its two latest maritime additions, the HEMMA BHUM and ITTHI BHUM. The grand naming ceremony, held at the Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Yard, was a momentous occasion signifying RCL’s commitment to expanding its fleet and enhancing its services across the Asia-Pacific region.

The HEMMA BHUM, meaning “Golden Land,” and the ITTHI BHUM, translating to “Successful Land,” were christened in the presence of esteemed sponsors and guests of honour. Mrs Nintira Sophonpanich, sponsor lady, and Mr Chartsiri Sophonpanich, President of Bangkok Bank, honoured the ceremony for the HEMMA BHUM, while Mrs Charunee Chinwongvorakul, sponsor lady, and Mr Vichit Chinwongvorakul, Chairman of Chinwong Food Company Limited, graced the occasion for the ITTHI BHUM.

The event was attended by RCL’s senior leadership, including Mr Sumate Tanthuwanit, Chairman of the Executive Committee, and Dr Twinchok Tanthuwanit, President of RCL, highlighting the significance of this achievement for the company.

Dr Twinchok Tanthuwanit expressed his excitement about this development, stating, “The naming of the HEMMA BHUM and ITTHI BHUM marks a thrilling new phase for RCL. These vessels represent our dedication to growth, innovation, and excellence in every journey we embark on.”

Following the ceremony, both vessels embarked on their maiden voyages, joining RCL and PIL’s fleet. With these 7,000 TEUs series vessels now in operation, RCL aims to enhance its operational capacity, thereby improving service efficiency and reliability for its clients and partners. In addition, RCL has signed new-building contracts for two more vessels of the same size with the Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Yard, equipped with the latest Energy Saving Devices (ESD) and Dual Fuel Ready notation, aligning perfectly with RCL’s strategic goals for growth and maritime excellence. The delivery dates for these new vessels are set between 2026 and 2028, supporting RCL’s fleet enhancement strategy.
