On 13th December 2021, vessel ZHEN HUA 28, under the flag of Hong Kong, arrived at Cai Mep International Terminal (CMIT) to deliver the sixth quay crane to the terminal. This new super Post-Panamax ship-to-shore (STS) crane has the same specification as CMIT’s existing five quay cranes. With a weight of 1,500 tons, a lifting capacity of 100 tons, an outreach of up to 23 rows, it can handle the mega vessels currently calling CMIT regularly. Besides the sixth STS quay crane, CMIT has also recently invested in 6 new terminal trucks and other equipment.
CMIT productivity is currently at a high level, averaging over 32 moves per hour per crane and expected to be improved more. Offering outstanding world-class levels of operational performance through continuous investment in modern equipment brings more benefits to CMIT’s customers. In addition, it helps to position Cai Mep at a higher level in the global terminal operating industry.
CMIT has thrived over the last five years and has been operating at the designed capacity so far. Furthermore, shipping lines and alliances keep bringing more services and mega vessels to call at CMIT. Currently, CMIT is one of the very few terminals globally with the capacity to accommodate such mega vessels.

As an important link in the national foreign trade flow, CMIT’s investment in an additional STS quay crane demonstrates the great faith in the economic recovery and the strong development of an export-oriented country like Vietnam.
