Ocean Network Express (ONE) Thailand recently hosted twelve Japanese university students, eleven of which are from the Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology (TUMSAT) and one student from Kobe University. All the students are Juniors (3rd year) at their university and are a mix of studying to either be a seaman or they are studying marine logistics.

The group of university students visited the ONE Thailand office at Chamchuri Square in Bangkok and were given a formal lecture of ONE’s business operations and overall look of an ocean shipping industry by Mr. Kiyoshi Tokonami, Managing Director ONE Thailand; and Mr. Kazuhiro Kuroda, Assistant General Manager, Marketing and Planning Division.

Both accompanying and organizing these Japanese student internships is former TUMSAT graduate Mr. Hiroshi Morita, CEO of Ogihara (Thailand) Company. Mr. Morita originally contacted Mr. Tokonami proposing this CSR activity for the students, and Mr. Tokonami gladly accepted his request.

The group of university students used the opportunity to learn more about the Thai marine and logistics industry as well as how Japanese businesses operate within the country. The lecture today is just one part of the student’s internship activities. During their time in Thailand, the Japanese students also had a chance to tour Laem Chabang Port as well as factories and warehouses throughout the area.

Mr. Tokonami said, “I thoroughly enjoyed my time with the Japanese students today. They are embarking on a journey to work in the maritime industry and the chance to go abroad to learn about the industry internationally is a great eye-opening opportunity for them. I of course encouraged them to come to work for the Japanese shipping companies, but I hope they find success no matter where they end up in the industry.”

Not limited to this, but ONE is planning to continuously be involved in further CSR activities in the future.
