Yusen Logistics China introduces a hydrogen fuel cell truck to enhance the supply chain sustainability of the Pan-China group of Murata (China) Investment Co., Ltd.

The Murata Manufacturing group is a member of “RE100,” an international initiative which aims to switch the power used in business activities to 100% renewable energy. They have set a goal of sourcing 50% renewable energy for business operations by fiscal 2030 and 100% by fiscal 2050 and continue working toward realizing a sustainable society. In 2022, the Murata Manufacturing group embarked on the operation of the very first environmentally friendly multi-story parking garage in China and keeps moving forward with the use of renewable energy worldwide.

Yusen Logistics places ESG at the centre of its management focus, acts as a bridge between all stakeholders, including customers and business partners, and contributes to the realization of a sustainable society by working together to solve global environmental and social issues. For environmental issues – one of the most urgent areas of concern – aligning with the goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, we are working to achieve our medium-term target of reducing GHG emissions by 45% by 2030, focusing primarily on Scope 1 and 2 emissions.

YLCN, who has supported Murata Manufacturing’s network in China for years as a logistics partner, will advance the challenges of both parties toward a sustainable society by introducing a hydrogen fuel cell truck for Murata Manufacturing’s supply chain in China, which targets to create a sustainable transportation network worldwide. This is the first case for YLCN to put a hydrogen fuel cell truck into their customer’s supply chain. Hydrogen fuel cell trucks run on electricity generated through a chemical reaction with hydrogen and oxygen. Since hydrogen fuel cell trucks only emit water while operating, they are expected to be one of the cutting-edge automotive technologies which boost sustainability in society and also help us solve environmental problems such as climate change and air pollution.

The new hydrogen fuel cell truck was brought into the supply chain to deliver from a factory in Wuxi to Suzhou, and is able to travel up to approximately 400 km on a single hydrogen charge. Easy access to Hydrogen stations ensures stable delivery performance and sustainable energy reduces environmental impact. To introduce the hydrogen fuel cell truck, a ceremony was held on May 6, 2024, with the guests invited, and the truck initiated the operation just after the ceremony.

As a partner generating sustainable growth with our customers and as a core company of the NYK Group, which has set ESG as a growth strategy, we will provide optimal supply chain logistics services and promote initiatives with a sustainable long-term perspective.
