In 2024, the CMA CGM Foundation will step up its support for the French Red Cross by becoming its strategic logistics partner, offering the expertise and industrial capacity of the entire CMA CGM Group’s expertise and industrial capacity.

Up to 50 containers of humanitarian aid will be transported free of charge under the “Containers of Hope” program. This covers all the needs of the French Red Cross to ship emergency equipment to French overseas territories and other countries affected by crises where the French Red Cross supports the local National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.

The CMA CGM Foundation also transports food by road to local branches of the association throughout France. A total of 50 trucks from the CEVA Logistics fleet are at the association’s disposal, demonstrating the ongoing commitment of the CMA CGM Group and its subsidiaries through the Foundation. This major investment will support the Regional Intervention Platforms in the Caribbean and Indian Ocean.

The renewal of the partnership between the French Red Cross and the CMA CGM Foundation also aims to contribute to developing the Regional Intervention Platforms for the Americas and the Caribbean (PIRAC) and the Indian Ocean (PIROI).

These hubs, located in Guadeloupe, Martinique, Reunion, and Mayotte, are essential for rapid crisis response and to speed up aid to French overseas territories and neighbouring countries in the event of a disaster.

This support targets infrastructure, such as improving warehouses, purchasing logistics equipment, and providing more emergency kits to strengthen regional crisis response capacity.

The local offices in Marseille and Bouches-du-Rhône agencies will receive logistical support, including improved storage solutions. The CMA CGM Foundation will facilitate links between the Red Cross integration program and CEVA Logistics to welcome reintegrated employees trained in logistics professions.

With the Group’s support, the CMA CGM Foundation also organizes sponsorship missions to train local Red Cross volunteers in specific fields such as human resources, finance, law, and logistics. The Group’s staff members will also have the opportunity to participate in the deployment of first aid volunteers for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Ongoing support for the delivery of humanitarian supplies by the French Red Cross since 2015

The French Red Cross joined the CMA CGM Foundation’s Containers of Hope program in 2015, enabling the free delivery of humanitarian aid to crisis zones. Since then, the CMA CGM Foundation has transported 180 containers for the French Red Cross – that’s 800 tons of humanitarian aid.

Founded in 2012, the Containers of Hope program supports numerous humanitarian organizations in France and around the world. Combining emergency response and long-term support, the initiative has helped to ship more than 35,000 tons of aid to 70 countries since its inception.

Tanya Saadé Zeenny, President of the CMA CGM Foundation, said: “Strengthening our partnership with the French Red Cross is another example of our Foundation’s objective to work with organizations in France and abroad. We are putting CMA CGM’s logistical expertise and our staff members’ commitment to the French Red Cross service to support people in precarious situations or to respond to humanitarian emergencies.”

Philippe Da Costa, President of the French Red Cross, said: “Thanks to CMA CGM’s support, the French Red Cross will be able to provide even more assistance in mainland and overseas France and around the world. This major partnership, tailored to our organization’s needs, boosts our logistical capacity both on land and at sea. It makes it easier for our volunteers’ actions to provide solidarity where it’s needed most, especially when natural disasters strike.”
