Rhenus Group Helicopter Transport Operation HeliService

The Rhenus Group has once again showcased its proficiency in the aerospace sector with a seamlessly executed helicopter transport operation for HeliService, a prominent provider of offshore personnel transportation services. This impressive project involved the transportation of an eight-seater helicopter, bearing the registration plate AW169, from Germany to Taiwan, with various units of Rhenus collaborating on a global level to ensure its successful delivery.

The assignment to transport this unique helicopter was awarded to Rhenus in December 2023. The project kicked off with helicopter transportation from Emden, located on the German North Sea coast, to the port in Taiwan by Rhenus Project Logistics Germany. Upon the arrival of the ro/ro vessel at the sea terminal in Taiwan, the teams of Rhenus Air & Ocean Taiwan and Rhenus Offshore Logistics assumed responsibility. Leveraging their expertise in local logistics requirements, they oversaw the unloading and customs clearance process. Subsequently, the helicopter was transferred from the ship to a low-loader truck using a 20-tonne crane, and after temporary storage in a customs warehouse, it was transported to the terminal at Taichung Airport by truck.

The successful execution of this operation was not without its challenges, including the considerable distance, complex cargo requirements, delays, route adjustments, and compliance with strict regulations. Overcoming these hurdles necessitated local expertise and the ability to swiftly adapt to last-minute changes to ensure safe and punctual delivery.

Björn Wittek, Managing Director of Rhenus Offshore Logistics, credited the successful transportation to excellent coordination and quick reaction times: “We believe in being prepared for all scenarios. So, when faced with vessel delays and last-minute changes, our team responded swiftly, replanning and coordinating efficiently with all involved parties. Our flexible and proactive approach was pivotal to the success of this project.”

The exceptional execution of this project has ensured the delivery of the helicopter in perfect condition, ready to be deployed for personnel transfer in Taiwanese offshore wind farms.
