Singapore-based Pacific International Lines (PIL) recently unveiled its inaugural block train service, connecting Baotou in Inner Mongolia, China, to the port city of Tianjin. The service commenced on June 22 and marked a significant milestone for PIL’s intermodal services.
The block train, comprising 40 units of 40-foot containers, transported a shipment of spare parts required to assemble over 60 heavy-duty trucks. Upon arrival in Tianjin, the containers were promptly transferred to the vessel Kota Setia, which is set to embark on a journey to Durban, South Africa, PIL’s final destination for this shipment.
By leveraging its extensive network and collaborating closely with partners, PIL ensured the careful packing of the spare parts at the inland port, safeguarding the integrity of the cargo during transportation. This streamlined process allows for the direct loading of containers onto vessels, facilitating a seamless onward journey to the destination.
