Pacific International Lines (PIL) and Humanity Matters (HM), a Singaporean humanitarian organization, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on humanitarian efforts and community uplifting initiatives in ASEAN and the Middle East.
PIL’s support for HM’s humanitarian work began in March 2024, with the provision of sea freight and land logistics for five shipments of containers from Singapore to Gaza, via Aqaba, Jordan. These shipments included medical supplies, water, ready-to-eat meals, and care packs for children affected by the conflict.
The newly signed MoU will expand this collaboration. PIL will continue to provide HM with containers, logistics support, and shipping services to countries in Asia within the PIL network, for humanitarian relief to victims of conflict or extreme climate events. Furthermore, PIL and HM will jointly explore and collaborate on initiatives to uplift and protect vulnerable communities in ASEAN countries where PIL operates. These initiatives may include offering English language education and access to safe water, as well as participating in coastal protection efforts. PIL’s total contributions under this three-year partnership will be up to SGD$1 million.
This collaboration also supports the ASEAN Civilian Alliance for Regional Emergencies (ASEAN Care), a humanitarian initiative coordinated by HM and officially launched in August 2024.
The MoU signing ceremony took place at the Sree Narayana Mission (SNM) during a Buka Puasa gathering, with prominent Singaporean figures in attendance, including Prime Minister Lawrence Wong. Prior to the gathering, 300 volunteers, including 10 PIL employees, packed 5,000 comfort packs for children as part of HM’s fourth relief effort for refugees in Gaza. PIL will transport these packs and 30,000 ready-to-eat meals in two shipping containers, marking the first sponsorship under the new MoU.
PIL CEO Lars Kastrup emphasized the company’s commitment to uplifting communities and its satisfaction in expanding the partnership with Humanity Matters. PIL Executive Chairman S.S. Teo highlighted PIL’s pride in supporting a fellow Singaporean organization and acknowledged Humanity Matters’ tireless efforts in serving disadvantaged communities in the region.
