OOCL Names its Third 16,828 TEU Container Vessel, OOCL Sunflower

Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) celebrated the naming of its third 16,828 TEU container vessel, the OOCL Sunflower, at a ceremony held at Dalian COSCO KHI Ship Engineering Co., Ltd. (DACKS).

Mrs. Jenny King, Director and General Manager of INTCO Recycling Resources Co., Ltd., officially named and blessed the vessel. The OOCL Sunflower is part of a series of eco-friendly vessels equipped with cutting-edge technology, offering exceptional intelligence, superior environmental performance, and outstanding operational efficiency. This series exceeds current environmental standards, underscoring OOCL’s commitment to sustainable development.

“We are confident that this ship will significantly enhance our ability to connect the world and serve our customers in future voyages,” said Mr. Michael Xu, Director and Member of the Executive Committee of OOCL. “As we look ahead to 2025, the shipping industry is set to face both opportunities and challenges. OOCL’s fleet structure will be further optimized, with more efficient and environmentally friendly new vessels set to deliver and sail, positioning us for future growth.”

He added, “We believe our vessels will continue to serve as a vital link connecting global markets, facilitating trade development, and delivering enhanced, environmentally friendly end-to-end integrated logistics services to our customers.”

The OOCL Sunflower will be serving OOCL’s Trans-Pacific Trade ECX1 service, with the following port rotation:

Hong Kong – Yantian – Xiamen – Shanghai – New York – Savannah – Charleston – Laem Chabang – Cai Mep – Hong Kong

The vessel will complete a round trip every 91 days.
