Nippon Express Holdings, Inc. (NX Group) is taking a significant step towards sustainability with the launch of its “NX-GREEN Ocean Program.” This new service, starting in February 2025, will help customers reduce their Scope 3 emissions by utilizing ocean freight forwarding services that incorporate carbon offsetting.
The NX Group is committed to achieving a carbon-neutral society by 2050. In line with this goal, the company is actively developing services that contribute to customers’ sustainability management. This includes promoting modal shifts to rail and ship transport and offering the “NX-GREEN SAF Program” for air freight, which utilizes sustainable aviation fuel.
Partnering with MOL for Carbon Offsetting
To achieve Scope 3 emissions reduction in ocean freight, NX Group is partnering with Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) and participating in its “Blue Action Net-Zero Alliance” carbon offset program. MOL has developed a platform that allows the environmental attributes of low-carbon voyages using alternative fuels to be traded as digital certificates.
Through the “NX-GREEN Ocean Program,” NX Group will procure these environmental attributes and digital certificates for specific low-carbon voyages undertaken by MOL-operated vessels. These certificates will be allocated to customers using NX Group’s ocean freight forwarding services, enabling them to offset their Scope 3 emissions.
Service Availability
This service will be available for all ocean freight (FCL) forwarding to/from any part of the world for which NX Group issues bills of lading (B/Ls), regardless of the shipping companies used. Customers who receive these digital certificates can use them in their own sustainability reporting and documentation.
Commitment to Sustainability
The NX Group is dedicated to sustainability management and contributing to a carbon-neutral society. By offering the “NX-GREEN Ocean Program,” the company provides customers with a practical and effective way to reduce their environmental impact and support their own sustainability goals.
