When Super Typhoon Yagi struck Southeast Asia in early September, the MSC Foundation quickly stepped in to provide emergency assistance. MSC Cargo local agencies are also actively involved in relief and rebuilding efforts.

More than 5.3 million people, including at least 1.5 million children, have been affected by Typhoon Yagi – one of the deadliest in decades. Flooding, landslides, and 200km/h winds destroyed critical infrastructure, leaving entire communities without access to clean water, food, shelter, healthcare, or education.

Commitment to Supporting Communities

The MSC Foundation is working closely with partners and NGOs across Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam to help those affected by the disaster.

MSC Myanmar, MSC Thailand, and MSC Vietnam have all played a key role in the operation by selecting and coordinating with local partners, and providing essential administrative support.

In Thailand, the foundation is collaborating with the Thai Red Cross Society to bring essential goods and medical supplies to 3,500 people affected by severe flooding.

With Community Partners International (CPI), MSC Foundation is delivering aid and resources to 1,250 people, including 250 with disabilities, in Myanmar’s Bago Region.

The Myanmar Red Cross Society and MSC are distributing vital supplies (e.g. water, food and hygiene kits) to 3,000 people, while rebuilding homes and restoring livelihoods.

In Vietnam, the foundation is helping repair and rebuild damaged schools and classrooms. This initiative will benefit 2,100 people.
