Maersk A/S (Maersk) and Hapag-Lloyd AG (Hapag-Lloyd) are set to launch their collaborative effort, Gemini Cooperation, in February 2025. The initiative aims to provide an interconnected ocean network with schedule reliability exceeding 90 per cent once fully implemented.

Since announcing the long-term collaboration in January 2024, the companies have been diligently finalizing the details of the operational collaboration, focusing on a joint ocean freight network for East-West trades. With the launch approximately five months away, Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd are now prepared to unveil finalized service maps and enhancements to the network since the initial announcement in January 2024. Additionally, the companies will also introduce an alternative Cape of Good Hope network in response to ongoing disruptions in the Red Sea.

Rolf Habben Jansen, CEO of Hapag-Lloyd, emphasized that reliability, connectivity, and sustainability are the focal points of the networks being presented. He expressed pleasure in being able to offer customers full transparency regarding the delivery of an exceptional ocean network, enabling them to plan ahead despite the dynamic situation.

Vincent Clerc, CEO of Maersk, announced that the Gemini Cooperation will reveal the network expected to be deployed in February 2025 in October 2024. Clerc also reaffirmed that schedule reliability remains an unchanged target regardless of the network phased in, citing confidence in the collaboration’s potential to elevate industry standards.

The new network, depending on the phase-in decision, will consist of either 27 or 29 efficient ocean mainliner services supported by 30 agile, intraregional shuttle services and will involve either 300 or 340 vessels.
