L’Oréal and DHL Thailand Collaborate on Sustainable Beauty Product Transport Using Electric Trucks

In a groundbreaking initiative, DHL Supply Chain Thailand, the global leader in logistics, has partnered with beauty giant L’Oréal Groupe to introduce two six-wheel electric trucks. This collaboration establishes L’Oréal Groupe in Thailand as the first beauty company to deploy electric trucks nationwide. It signifies a significant stride in sustainable transportation within the beauty industry, reflecting L’Oréal Groupe’s commitment to reducing its environmental impact.

L’Oréal Groupe has been committed to sustainability and minimizing its environmental footprint across the entire value chain for decades. In response to growing environmental and social challenges, the company has accelerated its efforts toward 2030 through a program called “L’Oréal for the Future”, targeting a radical transformation of its operations. Patrick Girod, CEO of L’Oréal Thailand, Myanmar, Laos and Cambodia, stated, “Our ambitious ‘L’Oréal for the Future’ program reflects our deep commitment to sustainability, setting clear and impactful goals to respect planetary boundary, with a focus on reducing CO₂ emissions across operations. By 2030, L’Oréal Groupe aims to achieve a 50% reduction, on average and per finished product, in greenhouse gas emissions linked to the transport of our products, compared to 2016. The strategic partnership with DHL Supply Chain Thailand to deploy electric trucks will be pivotal in ensuring our operations in Thailand, which covers 15 brands with 200 million products sold annually, contribute to this target, marking a significant step toward a greener and more sustainable future.”

DHL Supply Chain Thailand will oversee the transportation of L’Oréal products, utilizing electric trucks to transport goods from L’Oréal’s Distribution Center in Bang Na to over 30 modern trade distribution centers in Bangkok and surrounding areas. These electric trucks, capable of traveling up to 350 km on a single charge, are expected to reduce CO₂ emissions by an estimated 70 tons per truck per year. Managed by DHL’s Connected Control Tower, the trucks will enhance operational efficiency, transparency, and real-time safety, contributing to more secure and efficient transportation processes.

In alignment with DHL Supply Chain’s global Green Transport Policy, DHL Supply Chain Thailand is actively expanding their fleet with electric vehicles and continuously exploring innovative, alternative solutions in warehouse and transport operations to achieve further its journey to reduce all logistics-related emissions to net zero by the year 2050.

As part of the “L’Oréal for the Future” program, L’Oréal Groupe aims to achieve carbon neutrality across all sites by 2025 by improving energy efficiency and using 100% renewable energy. Furthermore, by 2030, L’Oréal will set the bar even higher by ensuring that 100% of the plastics used in their product packaging will be sourced from either recycled or bio-based materials and 95% of its ingredients in formula will be biobased, derived from abundant minerals or circular processes.
