Kota Gabung Papua New Guinea

Kota Gabung recently made history by becoming the largest container vessel to call at Papua New Guinea. Operated by PIL’s sister company Mariana Express Lines, which focuses on niche routes in Asia-Pacific, Kota Gabung called at South Pacific International Container Terminal (SPICT) in the city of Lae on 12 November, and Motukea International Terminal (MIT) in Port Moresby on 17 November, as part of PIL’s Asia-North Australia Express (ANA) service.

With SPICT now equipped with two post-Panamax ship-to-shore cranes – the largest and the first such port equipment in the country – and with MIT doubling its quayside capability this year to ensure a faster turnaround of vessels, customers can look forward to enhanced schedule reliability for the fortnightly ANA service and shorter transit time for Papua New Guinea cargo.

PIL remains committed to the markets in the Pacific Islands region. Leveraging the infrastructure improvements at SPICT and MIT, it will continue its mission of “Driving Connectivity” to Papua New Guinea and beyond.
