Hutchison Ports Thailand (HPT) and Kasetsart University’s Faculty of International Maritime Studies, Sriracha Campus, have joined hands for the third year of the Go Green initiative.

The Go Green project is part of the academic collaboration between the two organisations, initiated in 2020, to raise awareness of environmental issues, particularly the impact of global climate change on the well-being and health of the population in the region. Accompanied by the promotion of participating in environmental activities, such as tree planting, to expand green spaces and reduce waste through Upcycling activities, the results of these activities will contribute to enhancing the environmental friendliness of students and staff at Hutchison Ports Thailand.

Additionally, Kasetsart University continuously emphasises environmental sustainability, ranking as the top green university in Thailand for 2021-2022, and secured the 40th position globally as an environmentally friendly institution.

In the early part of 2023, both organisations jointly organised two activities as part of the Go Green project:

  • Planting 40 trees to increase green spaces within Kasetsart University, Sriracha Campus.
  • Tree planting at home opens the opportunity for the general public to participate. A total of 3,944 online submissions were received.

On November 29, 2023, both organisations announced the success of two additional activities:

  • Drawing competition on the theme of ‘Green Port.’
  • Waste Management competition for Upcycling of discarded items.

The drawing competition, themed ‘Green Port,’ received 64 submissions, providing insights into youth perspectives on the future of port operations and environmental concerns.

The Waste Management Upcycling activity saw 37 submissions, including a versatile trolley, a purse crafted from recycled water cans, a tissue container made from discarded paper, etc. As the Waste Management Upcycling activity aimed to reduce waste and reuse materials by creating new items, the total artworks can reduce greenhouse gas, equivalent to 66.7 kilograms of carbon dioxide (CO2 eq), by upcycling and innovatively repurposing items.

As committed community stakeholders, HPT and Kasetsart University will further the Go Green project in 2024, aiming for increased public participation to promote sustainability and environmental well-being.
