HMM has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) to collaborate on the development of Vadhvan Port in India. This strategic partnership will support the Indian government’s goal of making Vadhvan Port one of the world’s top 10 container ports by 2040.

Under the MOU, HMM will contribute to the development and operation of Vadhvan Port, which is expected to handle 23 million TEUs annually and include nine container terminals. The port’s natural depth of 20 meters will accommodate HMM’s largest vessels, including its 24,000 TEU ships, and offers excellent connectivity to India’s inland logistics network.

“We hope this partnership leads to strong cooperation for port development,” said an HMM official. “We will continue investing in terminals to grow our integrated logistics business, a key part of our mid-to-long-term strategy.”

Expanding Services in India

HMM is actively expanding its services in India, a rapidly growing market that has attracted global attention. The company’s new INX (India North Europe Express) service is scheduled to commence operations in February 2025, complementing its existing FIM (Far East-India Mediterranean) and IAX (India-America Express) routes.

This collaboration with JNPA on the Vadhvan Port project will further strengthen HMM’s presence in India and enhance its port business competitiveness. HMM’s commitment to investing in terminal infrastructure and developing integrated logistics solutions underscores its dedication to meeting the evolving needs of its customers in this dynamic region.
