EUROGATE Container Terminal Hamburg GmbH has placed an order for 15 Hybrid Konecranes Noell Straddle Carriers. This order, booked at the end of 2024, will be for the new modular straddle carrier design, which allows for easier retrofitting of power options to reduce reliance on fossil fuels. The straddle carriers are scheduled for delivery by July 2026.

The EUROGATE Group is a major player in container handling, managing over 12 million TEUs annually across nine locations in Europe and Africa. Having deployed Konecranes Noell Straddle Carriers for over 25 years in its German network, EUROGATE’s continued investment reflects its confidence in Konecranes’ reliability, innovation, and support for sustainable operations.

Modular Design for Future-Proofing

The key feature of these 15 straddle carriers is their modular design, which enables easier retrofitting of power options. This design simplifies the transition to battery-electric operation or hydrogen power, reducing the effort and complexity previously associated with upgrading drives.

“The flexibility to make powertrain upgrades makes this a future-proof investment,” said Johannes Stelten, Managing Director of EUROGATE Container Terminal Hamburg. “Konecranes is helping us to move towards CO2-neutral operations while continuing to deliver the high operational efficiency we are known for.”

Enhanced Efficiency and Sustainability

These new straddle carriers will also be equipped for TIC 4.0, an industry-standard framework facilitating advanced data transmission for operational insights and performance tracking.

“The new, modular design of Konecranes Noell Straddle Carriers opens a new era in container handling by combining modular flexibility with sustainable performance,” said Peter Kania, Sales Director, Straddle Carrier business unit, Konecranes. “It’s appropriate that EUROGATE – one of our most loyal customers – has taken this step towards the future of eco-efficient container handling.”

This contract aligns with Konecranes’ Ecolifting initiative, which aims to increase the positive environmental impact of its products and services while reducing customers’ carbon footprints.
