COSCO Shipping Specialized Carriers has launched a new direct, weekly shipping route connecting Qingdao Port in China with key ports in Southeast Africa. This strategic move aims to enhance trade connectivity and significantly improve shipping efficiency between the two regions.
The inaugural voyage, undertaken by the newly delivered Green Nagoya, a 72,000-dead-weight-ton cargo ship, carried over 20,000 cubic meters of machinery, vehicles, and steel from Qingdao Port to Dar es Salaam Port in Tanzania. With a voyage time of just 20 days, this service boosts shipping efficiency by at least 30%, significantly reducing delivery times compared to previous options.
This new route offers a safe and fast maritime alternative, supporting the Belt and Road Initiative’s high-quality development. It also positions Qingdao Port as the exclusive hub for general cargo liners in northern China, further strengthening COSCO’s global service network.
The Green Nagoya is an eco-friendly vessel, boasting a fuel consumption reduction of up to 40% and cutting carbon emissions by 380.4 metric tons per 10,000 tons of cargo.
Key benefits of the new service include:
- Improved Shipping Efficiency: 30% faster delivery times.
- Reduced Environmental Impact: 40% lower fuel consumption and significant CO2 reduction.
- Increased Capacity: Handling up to 1.5 million cubic meters of exports annually.
The route connects major Southeast African ports, including Dar es Salaam, Mombasa, and Durban, promising a significant boost to trade flows and stronger economic ties between China and Africa.
“This new service marks a significant step in our commitment to providing efficient and sustainable shipping solutions,” said a COSCO Shipping Specialized Carriers spokesperson. “By connecting China and Africa with this high-speed route, we are facilitating trade and contributing to economic growth in both regions.”
