In a groundbreaking achievement, CHIMBUSCO Jiangsu has successfully completed its first methanol refuelling mission for the newly launched methanol dual-fuel powered container ship, the “NCL VESTLAND.” The operation took place at Sanfu Shipbuilding in Taizhou, where 79.5 tons of methanol was delivered to the 1,300 TEU vessel.
This significant milestone highlights CHIMBUSCO Jiangsu’s commitment to advancing marine fuel technology. The refuelling was facilitated by a mobile methanol filling skid developed in collaboration with COSCO (Lianyungang) Liquid Loading & Unloading Equipment Co., Ltd. The entire process was efficiently executed, taking just 2.5 hours to complete the vehicle-to-ship fueling operation.
To ensure the success of this innovative refuelling task, CHIMBUSCO Jiangsu held multiple coordination meetings, focusing on the methanol fueling process, safety assurance protocols, and emergency response strategies. They also prepared a comprehensive operation guide for methanol refuelling to streamline the process.
The mobile methanol filling skid is designed with several integrated functional modules that enable it to simultaneously unload and refuel methanol. This flexible solution requires a low initial investment and can achieve a rapid bunkering rate of 180 cubic meters per hour, making it an ideal choice for the emerging methanol bunkering market. Furthermore, it can support shipyards in testing new vessels and fulfilling their bunkering needs before the widespread adoption of dedicated methanol bunkering vessels.
This milestone marks a pivotal step toward the future of sustainable maritime fuel solutions.
