CMA CGM launched a new shipping service, the North Red Sea Express (NRX), which commenced operations in April 2024. The NRX service connects Saudi Arabia’s Jeddah Islamic Port to NEOM, as well as the North Red Sea ports of Sokhna in Egypt, Aqaba in Jordan, and Yanbu in Saudi Arabia. This initiative aims to expand logistic capabilities in the North Red Sea region and bolster Saudi Arabia’s position as a global logistics hub.

In partnership with Folk Maritime, a pioneering independent feeder and short-sea shipping operator in Saudi Arabia, CMA CGM will operate the NRX service on a weekly basis using two vessels. The service is designed to accommodate cargo transhipment from both Jeddah Islamic Port Terminals Red Sea Gate Terminal (RSGT) and DP World Jeddah (DPW Jeddah), with a focus on meeting the growing market and trade needs of the region while ensuring efficient cargo handling and seamless delivery to local organizations.

The NRX service is positioned to support customers seeking growth opportunities within key regional ports and will also contribute to reducing carbon emissions by providing a reliable and effective alternative sea solution between Jeddah, NEOM, and Yanbu.

The inaugural sailing of the NRX service is scheduled for April 9th, 2024, with the M/V JIN SHUN HE set to depart from Jeddah. CMA CGM’s partnership with Folk Maritime in this upgraded service signifies the company’s commitment to meeting the growing market needs of NEOM and other key ports in the North Red Sea.

Olivier NIVOIX, Executive Vice-President of CMA CGM Group Lines, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, emphasizing that the NRX service will not only enhance Saudi Arabia’s logistic capabilities in the North Red Sea but also provide customers with an improved offering in this strategically important region. CMA CGM Group has been pioneering direct calls to the port of NEOM since March 2023, further underscoring the company’s commitment to the region.

The rotation of the NRX service will include stops at Jeddah RSGT, Jeddah DPW, NEOM, Sokhna, Aqaba, Yanbu, and Jeddah RSGT.
