CMA CGM $20 Billion Investment U.S. Maritime Logistics Infrastructure

CMA CGM Group has announced a $20 billion investment over the next four years to bolster America’s maritime transportation, logistics, and supply chain capabilities. This significant commitment aims to support the U.S. economy, boost American exports, and generate 10,000 new jobs.

This investment builds upon CMA CGM Group’s 35-year presence in the U.S., where the company operates in 40 states and employs 15,000 Americans. CMA CGM is a major player in U.S. trade, handling over 5 million shipping containers annually.

“I am proud to build on our long-standing relationship with the United States through this commitment of $20 billion to the country’s maritime future and logistics capabilities,” said Rodolphe Saadé, Chairman and CEO of CMA CGM Group. “Over the next four years, we will significantly grow our U.S.-flagged fleet, expand the capacity of key container ports on both coasts, develop state-of-the-art warehousing across the country, and establish a significant air cargo hub in Chicago. This will create 10,000 new American jobs and further strengthen our partnership with American customers and public authorities.”

Key Investment Areas

  • U.S. Shipbuilding and Maritime Jobs: The Group will contribute to the development of American maritime capabilities by growing APL’s U.S.-flag capacity and enhancing maritime resources with new jobs, skills, and technologies. This will reinforce APL’s role as a leading carrier for U.S. government cargo and promote secure access to the oceans for U.S. economic and national security.
  • Container Port Expansion: The Group will develop port infrastructure in key U.S. locations, including New York, Los Angeles, Dutch Harbor, Houston, and Miami, aiming to improve operational efficiency, digitization, connectivity, and safety.
  • Warehousing and Automotive Logistics: The investment will include developing advanced warehousing and automotive logistics platforms across the country to enhance the security and reliability of the domestic supply chain and advance U.S. leadership in logistics.
  • Air Cargo Hub in Chicago: CMA CGM Group will establish a new air cargo hub in Chicago and deploy five new Boeing 777 freighters, operated by American pilots, to strengthen U.S. trade and connectivity and ensure reliable transport of critical and time-sensitive goods.
  • Logistics R&D Hub: A new logistics R&D hub will be opened in Boston, focusing on advanced robotics and automation solutions to optimize logistics services, developed in collaboration with leading American technology partners.

This $20 billion investment by CMA CGM Group is intended to support the transformation and modernization of America’s supply chain and solidify its commitment to the U.S. economy.
