Abu Dhabi Hosts Landmark Event Strengthen Ties with China

Abu Dhabi recently celebrated a significant milestone, marking the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and the United Arab Emirates. The event featured a momentous signing ceremony for a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing the cooperation between Yangpu Port and Abu Dhabi Terminal.

Organized by the Management Committee of Yangpu Economic Development Zone in partnership with Abu Dhabi Ports Group, CSP Abu Dhabi Terminal, and Hainan Harbor & Shipping International Port Co., Ltd., this initiative seeks to elevate both ports into pivotal regional hubs. The goal is to bolster bilateral and regional economic and trade interactions between the two nations.

The ceremony took place simultaneously in Abu Dhabi and Haikou, Hainan Province, China, drawing esteemed dignitaries, including Mr. Feng Fei, Secretary of the Hainan Provincial Party Committee; Mr. Liu Xiaoming, Governor of Hainan Province; and Mr. Zhang Yiming, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the UAE. On the UAE side, the delegation was led by Mr. Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi, CEO of Abu Dhabi Ports Group.

Yangpu Port and Abu Dhabi Port represent key operational hubs for COSCO SHIPPING in the Asia-Pacific region. The company has implemented an integrated approach focusing on “investment, construction, and operation,” resulting in the development of modern maritime facilities and the establishment of state-of-the-art integrated logistics parks. This strategy aims to forge a new generation of digital, intelligent, and environmentally friendly free trade ports.

Currently, COSCO SHIPPING operates 43 routes from the Yangpu International Container Terminal and 20 routes from the Abu Dhabi Terminal. In April, a direct shipping route between Yangpu and Abu Dhabi was launched, creating a dense network of connections to enhance global shipping efficiency. This new framework is expected to facilitate seamless connectivity between the sister ports and contribute to the growth of trade between China and the UAE.
