DP World’s Jebel Ali Port reported its highest container and breakbulk cargo volumes since 2015, demonstrating strong performance despite global supply chain challenges.
The port handled 15.5 million TEUs in 2024, a 1 million TEU increase from the previous year, representing nearly 18% of DP World’s global container throughput. Breakbulk cargo also saw significant growth, reaching 5.4 million metric tonnes (MTs), a 23% year-on-year increase and the second-highest volume in almost a decade.
Abdulla Bin Damithan, CEO & Managing Director of DP World GCC, attributed this success to the port’s infrastructure and its role in supporting the region’s trade. He highlighted Jebel Ali’s capacity to meet increasing demand and its strong ties with the Jebel Ali Free Zone and major global economies.
Factors Driving Growth
- Container Throughput: Strong local and regional demand, particularly from Asia and the Indian Subcontinent, new shipping services, and efficient operations.
- Breakbulk Growth: Regional investments in infrastructure, renewable energy, and industrial development, with substantial handling of wind turbines, solar panels, heavy machinery, and construction materials.
Jebel Ali Port also played a crucial role in facilitating humanitarian aid, consolidating structural steel exports, and streamlining logistics for a major mining project in Liberia.
Port Capabilities
Jebel Ali Port has an annual container capacity of 19.4 million TEUs across four terminals, with extensive berth space and dedicated terminals for various cargo types. It is complemented by Dubai’s Mina Al Hamriya Port, which handles bulk and breakbulk cargo and accommodates diverse vessel types.
DP World’s global network of ports and terminals handled a record 88.3 million TEUs in 2024.
