MAERSK subsidiary Sealand Asia have launched Panjang’s first direct North East Asia service, the Intra-Asia 1 (IA1). With the launch of these new direct services from Panjang, Indonesia, Sealand Asia’s IA1 has now become the market leader for connecting the region to North East Asia, bolstering the company’s continued commitment to opening up new trade opportunities for businesses located in Lampung, Panjang and Palembang, Indonesia.
Country Manager for Sealand, Joshua Ng said, “Sealand has grown together with the port of Panjang since we first entered the market in 2009 (then still known as MCC). We believe that our new upgraded IA1 service that connects Panjang directly to China, South Korea and Russia will provide customers with a new level of connectivity and will support international trade not only for the Lampung province but also the southern part of Sumatra.“
The IA1 service is the only service that directly serves routes from Panjang to Kaohsiung (Taiwan), Busan (Korea), and Shanghai (China) and also has the largest vessels that call Panjang port. Along with these benefits, the IA1 is able to carry more exports from the Lampung, Panjang and Palembang regions through an approximately 167% increase in vessel space and 46% increase in reefer capacity and up to 69% reduction in transit time to certain destinations.
