The Japanese global logistics services company, Nippon Express, recently conducted a trial transport run from Xian, China to Duisberg in Germany using an exclusive cargo block train. The train left Xian Station for Duisberg Station in Germany on Thursday, December 20, 2018, and carried 41 containers in just 17 days to Germany.
The block train trial run project is part of Nippon Express FY2018 “Business Feasibility Study Project for Overseas Development of High-quality Infrastructure (Study on Improving Hard and Soft Infrastructure to Promote Utilization of the China Land Bridge)”. The study was at the request of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry for Japan.
Managing Executive Officer for Nippon Express, Tatsuo Sugiyama spoke at the departure ceremony, “Manufacturing is becoming increasingly diverse from procurement to production, with materials being procured, goods produced and end products consumed at various locations. Given the growing need for on-time, inexpensive and convenient logistics, scheduled bulk transport by rail will be key.”
After this very successful trial, Nippon Express will begin a regular block train service sometime in March 2019.
