French-based and leading worldwide container transportation and shipping company, CMA CGM recently announced they had completed the acquisition of the Finland-based container-transportation and logistics company, Containerships. The latest acquisition reinforces CMA CGM’s position as a major player in intra-European transportation.
The official transaction was authorized by the European Commission on October 22nd 2018.
Containerships were founded in Finland in 1966 and have 690 employees, specializing in the intra-European market Containerships plc. provides multimodal transport from producer to consumer, by sea, by road and by rail and will complement CMA CGM’s service offering.
As a result of this latest acquisition, the CMA CGM Group strengthens their position as a major player in intra-European transport and their customers will significantly benefit from the expertise of 2,700 employees located in 130 offices.
In 2002 the CMA CGM Group acquired MacAndrews as the start of their strategy to densify their regional network, this new acquisition of Containerships continues that strategy in strengthening their intra-regional services.
