Fresh off the back of reporting their highest volumes on record, the Georgia Ports Authority recently welcomed the ONE Stork Container Ship on its maiden voyage. The ship is part of the Ocean Network Express (ONE) shipping company and has a 14,026 TEU capacity. ONE received the newly built Stork on June 12th 2018.

Executive Director for GPA, Griff Lynch said, “It’s an honor to welcome this distinctive ship to the Port of Savannah, vessels in the 14,000-plus range represent the future of global shipping, and play to Savannah’s strengths of space, infrastructure and cargo fluidity.”

Five cranes at the 1,200-acre Garden City Terminal moved over 4,000 containers on and off the ONE Stork including 3,432 export containers and 655 import boxes. The vessel was the first to call on Savannah featuring the distinctive magenta color of the ONE shipping company.

CEO of the ONE alliance, Jeremy Nixon has this to say about their famous distinctive color, “Magenta is very symbolic of our new company’s independent and innovative approach to global container shipping, magenta, we also hope, will improve safety, and make the ONE Stork, and her sister-ships, much more visible to all the many other vessels that may pass her in close proximity over the course of her full trading life.”

According to ONE, the Stork optimizes efficiency due to its state-of-the-art design as the ship’s hull allows improved cargo-loading efficiency thanks to the minimized engine-room space. In addition flexible operation and improved fuel-consumption is achieved by the main engine’s dual, high- or low-output system, resulting in a drastic reduction of carbon dioxide emissions.

The ONE Stork operates on THE Alliance EC4 service (Asia to North America East Coast).
