The Irish division of one of Europe’s leading logistics service companies, Rhenus Logistics recently announced they had signed an agreement to acquire temperature-controlled, pharmaceutical shipment and hazardous consignment specialist, Avant Air and Sea. The agreement was signed on August 3rd 2018 and is subject to CCPC consent.

Headquartered in Dublin, Avant Air and Sea is one of the leading logistics providers on the island and has been providing air and sea freight services along with cross-border services for imports and exports since 1990.

Their portfolio of services includes hand-carry and AOG services for air freight (with a focus on urgently required spare parts for aircraft), consolidation and express. The company is an Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) and also holds the Dangerous Goods (DG) and Good Distribution Practice (GDP) certification in accordance with the IATA guidelines.

The company will now operate under the name Avant Rhenus within the Rhenus Group.

The presence of the Rhenus Group in Ireland began over 30 years ago when it was then part of Hamann International, which was eventually integrated into the Rhenus-Group in 2006.

Managing Director of Rhenus Air and Ocean Europe, Jörn Schmersahl gave his reasons for the acquisition, “Avant Air and Sea is a company with a strong focus on customer relations as well as providing important services for the air and sea freight sector and it will make an important contribution to the ongoing growth of the Rhenus Group. We’re delighted to be able to continue developing the Rhenus business activities in Ireland together with Avant.”

Managing Director of Avant Air and Sea, David Warren had this to say on the new agreement, “We’ve found a customer-oriented partner in the Rhenus Group and it will enable us to continue developing our services for our existing and future customers due to its global network and its comprehensive expertise.”
