In January 2017, Yusen Logistics subsidiary, Malaysia-based Tasco acquired two of the leading cold chain logistics providers in Malaysia, Gold Cold Transport Sdn Bhd, Inc. (GCT) and MILS Cold Chain Logistics Sdn Bhd(MCCL). The acquisitions were made to meet the increased demand experienced throughout the ASEAN region for refrigerated transportation and cold storage facilities for perishable products, such as pharmaceuticals, fresh produce and various beverages.

After both acquisitions were complete Tasco established a new subsidiary, TYGC, which conduct their business operations under the GCT and MCCL umbrella.

GCT is one of the leading providers of cold chain logistics in Malaysia, the company boasts an impressive fleet of over 200 reefer trucks along with 31,000 m2 of warehousing with a key focus on the handling of chilled and frozen foods, 80% of all the domestic market for ice cream in Malaysia is managed by GCT.

Located in close proximity to Westport of Port Klang, MCCL operates several chilled and frozen warehouses approximately 7,000 m2 in area. Their facility is strategically located near the customs and port authorities and is also classed as a commercial free zone.

Both GCT and MCCL have received halal certification from the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM), the Malaysian government’s certification organization. With this certification the companies can now provide cold-chain services for halal products in Malaysia.

As part of their long-term strategy, ‘Transform 2025’ the company is focusing on “Expanding cold-chain and healthcare business into one of the region’s main commercial pillars” while “Aggressively looking for appropriate investment opportunities”

Tasco has promised to continue to expand their cold-chain business in Malaysia to meet the ever growing need for supply chain logistics services.
