A new contract agreement made by Nippon Express Nederland BV, W. P. Carey Inc. and the Port of Rotterdam Authority will see the development of the largest distribution center to operate in Rotterdam.

When complete the Nippon Express facility at Maasvlakte will be the first logistics centre with a floor area over 100,000 square metres to be housed in the port of Rotterdam. The company’s current warehouse will be expanded by 32,600 square meters to create the new area record.

Since the late 1970s, Nippon Express Nederland has held a major interest in the port of Rotterdam as a logistics service provider. Back in 2015 Nippon signed a lease agreement with logistics real estate investor W. P. Carey, for a 70,000-m² XXL warehouse at Maasvlakte.

The new expansion will see 31,487 square meters dedicated for new warehousing along with 1,130 square meters that will be used for office space. These new additions will total 103,951 square meters of the floor are making it, not only the largest in Rotterdam but one of the largest in the Netherlands overall.

Distribution & Warehousing Manager for the Port of Rotterdam, Danny Levenswaard said, “We are delighted that W. P. Carey and Nippon Express Nederland have once again decided to invest in their Rotterdam facilities,” he further commented, “It attests to Maasvlakte’s strong position as a logistics hub.”
