French shipping company CMA CGM has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with one of the world’s largest port operators PSA to push forward digitalization and innovation in the shipping and supply chain ecosystem industries, using the Ze Box platform by CMA CGM and unboXed by PSA.

Ze Box developed by CMA CGM is their corporate venture capital unit which invests in innovative start-ups that can bring a strategic value to the company, while unboXed by PSA is their international external innovation and corporate venture capital unit.

Both companies have already worked in conjunction with great success, such as the CMA CGM-PSA Lion Terminal in Singapore. This new MoU builds on a proven commercial partnership between them.

The MoU states collaboration in the following areas.

  1. Ze Box and PSA unboXed will support the growth of each other’s ecosystem through resource collaboration.
  2. Ze Box and PSA unboXed will collaborate through their corporate innovation programs to address industry issues. They will utilize each other’s industry knowledge and experience in shipping and supply chain management to provide problem statements along with real-life solutions capabilities, to test-bed ideas and to achieve improved customer experience and efficiency in operations.
  3. Ze Box and PSA unboXed will support each other’s mentorship program through the provision of experienced mentors to catalyse the growth of start-ups in the programs
  4. Ze Box will set up a satellite office within PSA unboXed premises in Singapore

CMA CGM Group Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Rodolphe Saadé said, “We are delighted to work with PSA unboXed on this initiative. Through this collaboration, we will mentor start-ups and offer them access to key knowledge and expertise, so that they are well-placed to succeed. This partnership will accelerate our digital strategy to achieve better customer experience and operational efficiency.”

PSA International Group Chief Executive Officer, Tan Chong Meng said, “We are very glad to work with CMA CGM’s Ze Box. Logistics is a team sport, and PSA and CMA CGM have different and yet complementary strengths in the global supply chain. This technological collaboration will add depth and diversity to our respective innovation efforts, as we seek to co-create meaningful and impactful solutions in the face of technological disruptions and changing customer needs.”
