Logistics solutions and services associated with the pharma and healthcare sectors have become a key factor for the growth of Kuehne + Nagel with their overland business in Europe.

Kuehne + Nagel has strengthened their position for pharma solutions in the European market due to the extension of the European overland cross dock platform in Contern and the integration of telematics data of key providers.

Kuehne + Nagel Senior Vice President Overland Europe, Uwe Hött said, “Industry-specific services for customers from the pharma & healthcare industry mark a key factor of Kuehne + Nagel’s success story in overland business. The investment into our Luxembourg pharma platform and the integration of telematics data of qualified key transport partners contribute significantly towards our overall strategy for the pharma industry with a special focus on a temperature controlled transportation for both FTL and LTL. The extension of the Contern facility will enhance providing industry-leading services with increased capacity for our customers.”

The new Contern platform is one part of Kuehne + Nagel’s KN PharmaChain. KN PharmaChain is a multi-modal logistics service for climate-controlled door-to-door transportation which allows real-time trackability of shipments coupled with proactive risk management.

The Contern facility provides total coverage to every European destination, offering competitive lead times and an industry leading GDP certified infrastructure. The new cross-dock has two separate zones with the first one having an operating temperature of 2°-8°C and the second one 15-25°C. Over 4,000 m2 is a portioned for the pharma sector.

The facility has several other features that ensure the optimum environment for the handling of pharmaceutical products such as:

  • Chilled rooms and flooring to increase efficient pharma handling
  • Heating and cooling systems that are powered independently
  • External surveillance center that monitors warehouse temperatures all year round
  • Computer temperature warning systems
  • Secure and dedicated parking area for trucks
  • 24 hour CCTV and controlled access points.
