Hamburg Süd, one the ten largest container shipping companies in the world has recently taken delivery of more than 8,000 new shipping containers in Dongguan, China. The containers delivered by the Maersk Container Industry (MCI) come in a distinctive red color with white lettering spelling out the company name.
Each of the 40’ high cube containers are coated with a special environmentally friendly water-based paint. This order is just one part of a bigger order Maersk Line has requested for containers. Both carriers will so merge their respective container pools to offer clients an unequalled availability of equipment.
The pool merger is projected to be completed by the middle of this year. When completed it will become the most advanced and largest container fleet in the shipping industry providing liner services to clients of both carriers, over 350,000 reefer units will also be included after the merger.
Hamburg Süd CEO, Arnt Vespermann said, “The new red containers made by MCI are an important statement to our customers that Hamburg Süd will keep serving their logistical needs in the well-known manner – just like we always have. If customers work with Hamburg Süd, they will talk to the same sales and customer service staff, and they will enjoy the same high level of cargo expertise and swift exception handling as before.”
