A subsidiary company wholly owned by the NYK Group will erect 11 wind turbine units at their finished-car logistics terminal. The company, International Car Operators N.V. (ICO) will install the turbines on their own ICO owned facility in the Port of Zeebrugge, Belgium.

This project will work in collaboration with Engie Electrabel, a local electricity and gas utility provider and the Port of Zeebrugge, the project is planned to be completed and the turbines fully operational by the middle of 2019.

NYK Group Port of Zeebrugge

The location of the units was chosen to optimize wind power generation and power production efficiency while causing no interference to the day-to-day operations of the Zeebrugge Port.Belgium has a very proactive energy policy and encourages the use and development of renewable energy sources. This new project is very much in line with that policy.

This is not the first time the NYK Group has implemented environmentally friendly initiatives, several of their other finished-car logistics terminals also have similar completed projects. LED lights, Solar panels and even the water they use to wash the cars is recycled, along with wind power all of these are helping NYK to move closer to their target of operating in fully ‘green’ terminals.

The NYK Group continues to reduce the detrimental effects on the environment caused by the supply chain sector and promotes their Green Terminal projects throughout the world.
