GAC Logistics Sri Lanka division and Hemas Transportation recently announced the opening of their new 30,000 m2 container yard. This new yard has a 6,000 TEU capacity and is located at their shared logistics facility in the industrial zone of Muthurajawela in Wattala, Sri Lanka.

This joint venture between the companies, otherwise known as Spectra Logistics was formed and announced at the new facility groundbreaking ceremony last year. This latest project in their partnership has already started on the next phase with the construction of a distribution center, which is due for completion by June 2018.

Vice President, Asia Pacific & Indian Subcontinent for the GAC Logistics Group, Lars Bergström said on the projects: “The country’s demand for third-party logistics services has been bolstered by global trade growth and Sri Lanka’s rising importance as a sourcing base for international buyers in South Asia. With the Spectra Logistics facility and gamut of freight and logistics services that we provide, we are well-placed to meet this growing demand” further adding “Spectra Logistics will bring supply chain solutions of global standards to our customers in Sri Lanka,”

CEO of Spectra Logistics, Niranjan Nallaratnam has great belief that this new yard has the potential to be one of the busiest in Sri Lanka: “Once the distribution centre is completed, Spectra Logistics will become one of Sri Lanka’s biggest integrated logistics providers offering end-to-end logistics services to support a scalable and cost-effective supply chain for our customers.”

The Western Region Megapolis Master Plan Project – Logistics City is home to the new facility, constructed on 15 acres of land, the strategic location between the International Airport and the port of Colombo away from residential areas will be key to their success. The yard can offer and a multitude of services for container handling, rigging, repairs and washing.
