Work is underway to convert part of GAC Samudera Logistics’ Cikarang distribution center into a multi-user temperature-controlled pharmaceutical and food grade facility. The new facility will be the first to be fully owned and operated by a third party logistics service provider in Indonesia, and is expected to be operational by July 2017.
Located within Lippo Cikarang, a flood-free industrial zone adjacent to Cikarang Dry Port, the facility will have a capacity of 20,000 pallet positions with a temperature range of 18 to 25°C. An air-conditioned re-packing area and dedicated sampling room will meet the Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards adjacent to the main facility as well.
GAC Samudera Logistics’ President Director, Hari Krishnan, says the establishment of this pharmaceutical-grade facility is timely to meet the continuous growth of the sector, driven by increased government healthcare spending, rising income and increased foreign investment.
Lars Bergström, GAC’s Group Vice President for Asia Pacific and Indian Subcontinent, says: “Combining the experience, resources and capabilities of the two companies, GAC Samudera Logistics has revolutionised the 3PL scene in Indonesia, and brought new innovations and advanced systems and technologies into the sector. This multi-user pharmaceutical-grade distribution facility represents a new milestone in that development, using our end-to-end logistics capability to support Indonesia’s growing pharmaceutical industry.”
Masli Mulia, President Director of PT. Samudera Indonesia Tbk, adds: “It was a dream come true for me when the Cikarang distribution centre was completed in 2013. When one dream ends, we dream new and bigger dreams. The new facility embodies our constant resolve to challenge ourselves to do more and achieve new breakthroughs through our partnership, which is growing stronger by the day.”
