Rhenus Contract Logistics announced that they have entered into a partnership with Fairphone, a company manufacturing an ethical smartphone.
Rhenus is in charge of managing the entire supply chain of Fairphone products, which includes the recent release of the Fairphone 2 of which the first shipments took place just before Christmas 2015.
The Rhenus global network is responsible for collection from the Rhenus warehouses in Shanghai and Hong Kong, airfreight to Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, road transport to the Rhenus facility in Eindhoven, and final delivery to the end consumers in Europe.
In addition to the traditional supply chain activities, Rhenus will also be kitting out the products per the specifications of the end consumer such as phone color, battery, and other accessories helping to enhance the customer experience. Rhenus will also be handling any return flows.
“With increasing volumes and continual production against a rolling forecast, we needed to find a partner capable of providing a broad range of global services including freight forwarding from our production partners in China, packaging procurement, B2C and B2B fulfillment, distribution, returns management, and value added services such as enterprise resource planning. We selected Rhenus in the summer of 2015, and we are very satisfied with our choice. During implementation, Rhenus were very flexible, helping us to design our new procedures and develop system connectors to meet our business requirements. When their business development team transferred responsibilities to their operations team they were all very careful to ensure that activities had clear owners and everyone was trained before the transfer was complete,” said Steve Harris, Director of Operations Fairphone.
