K Line’s Latest Container and Warehouse Facility Brings Fresh Opportunities for the Industry

Thailand is currently seeing an increase in demand for high quality warehouse facilities. This trend is likely to continue. K Line Thailand is responding to this development and seeks to help customers efficiently deal with the growing demand with its new warehouse and container yard and depot facility, KCST-4, situated near Laem Chabang Port.

We sat down with Mr. Ishida Nobuo, Managing Director of K Line Thailand and Mr. Shogo Hattori, Deputy Managing Director of K Line Container Service (Thailand), or KCST, one of the leading warehouse and container service providers, to learn more about KCST-4. Both men made a strong case about how diverse customers in Thailand would benefit from the logistics services and solutions provided in this cutting-edge facility.

A Long Record of Quality and Reliability

As a Japanese carrier with nearly a century of history, “K” Line has come a long way to become one of the leading transportation and shipping companies in the world with a reputation for safety, efficiency, and excellence in shipping and logistics, catering to a wide range of clients’ needs and requirements. “K” Line was established in Thailand since 1964 adding services, facilities, equipment and assets throughout the country ever since. Today, the company has embarked on another ambitious plan by introducing K Line Bang Phra Logistics Center (KBLC), also known as KCST-4, a brand-new warehouse and container yard and depot facility in the booming Laem Chabang area.

Mr. Ishida explained the reason behind KCST-4’s establishment, “Thailand has a very large import and export market, and continues to support a thriving logistics sector. As a result, K Line Thailand has taken on the challenge of meeting the country’s growing demands with the introduction of our 160,000 square-meter state-of-the-art container yard and depot, and 8,300 square-meter modern warehouse. We are capable of providing a world class service that the industry has come to expect from us.”

Convenient Location

With its strategic location in Bang Phra, Chonburi, KCST-4 is the company’s fourth facility built with high capacity to handle imports and exports for its diverse customer base which consists of leading manufacturers and shippers. However K Line Thailand is leading a new approach. The company will focus on bringing in customers who are carriers, forwarders, and logistics providers as well.

Mr. Hattori said, “We are able to provide cost-effective solutions that are very competitive. This is because K Line Thailand is seeking to invest in the country for the long term. Even our spot rates are highly competitive compared to other providers’ contract rates.”

“Our container yard and depot, with a capacity of 3,500 TEUs at present, has the advantage of being located within a short distance from Laem Chabang Port. Here, we have access to many ports, terminals, and industrial estates. Therefore we can provide quick transportation for both inbound and outbound shipments,” Mr. Hattori said.

Neutrality

KCST-4 follows a neutral warehouse policy which means it provides its services, infrastructure, and equipment to basically everyone. Mr. Hattori said, “We maintain a neutral policy of providing outstanding service for all kinds of customers who are welcome to make use of our large warehouse space and the modern equipment we have to offer. We are delighted to work closely with them and make sure that they receive the right solutions to meet their needs.”

Versatile Service

KCST-4 boasts a multi-user facility. This means that it can serve multiple clients at the same time under one roof and it can adjust to customers’ storage preferences and offer them a variety of solutions. For instance, clients can keep their shipments both in the short-term and long-term basis.

“Our experienced personnel are available to assist with any task. We can handle any type of cargo whether they come in large or small volumes or require any special handling,” Mr. Hattori said.

“This warehouse and container facility provides more than just your average storage services. We offer a range of value added services that can be tailored to suit each of our clients’ demands. To give you an example, these services include: cargo sorting, picking, packing, crating, and palletizing. Outdoors under a weather protected canopy, we provide stuffing and unstuffing containers, and with our high-capacity container yard we can handle empty and laden containers, provide repair and maintenance as well as reefer container management services. And with our sister company – Bangkok Marine Enterprises – opening up a truck depot next door, we can resourcefully provide milk-run and delivery services as well.” Mr. Hattori said.

Another well-organized feature of the KCST-4 facility is its truck gates. Mr. Hattori said, “Trucks can come in and out with this gate system. Each gate can be switched to an exit and entry point to accommodate current traffic situations. This approach boosts speed and efficiency at our container survey station. It slashes the unnecessary delays that can occur during peak hours.”

KCST-4’s warehouse has a large canopy designed for quick truck loading operations in all types of weather. The large canopy also allows KCST to handle heavy and outsized cargo conveniently within a roofed area. KCST-4 also makes use of LED lighting both inside the warehouse and in the container yard. “We use LED lights as it is an environmentally-friendly and cost-effective option for our nighttime operations,” Mr. Hattori said.

Today, KCST is opening KCST-4 on 92,000 square-meters of land. But early next year, the company will expand its facilities on another 70,000 square-meters. Mr. Ishida said, “Overall, K Line Thailand does things differently compared to other companies. As a result of our strong customer base and ongoing success, we can make great plans for the long term that can really contribute to our clients’ success. We seek to continually invest in many of our companies in Thailand to achieve further success as we have experienced for many decades.”

“The latest KCST-4 warehouse and container yard and depot facility is a step further to unlocking our potential and achieving our goals.”
